International Women's Day
What is International Women's Day?
Aday to celebrate women across the globe. A day when women come together from all walks of life to celebrate how far we have come socially, economically and politically, and to raise awareness of how much more there is still to do. Here at Tone & Sculpt we have built a company where womanhood is at the core of our values. Our Co-Founder, Krissy Cela, champions female empowerment and the need to celebrate women in every walk of life, across the globe and down the street from us too! Together, with all of you, we are excited for the future, your future, in bringing equality into the lives of every woman on the planet!
IWD came about in the early 1900s as a day to mark and celebrate female accomplishments and the need for better pay, rights and conditions for women. We can easily forget that there was a time where women were not allowed to vote, not allowed to work and their roles were very much defined and dictated by a patriarchal society. Now, we are working in a world where women are starting their own businesses (aka Krissy Cela!), leading political campaigns and can hold a mutual and powerful conversation with their male counterparts. I am so happy that this will be considered the norm for young girls growing up, however we must not forget there is a long way to go – gender pay gap, body image, social expectations and so much more. It’s a crucial, exciting and extremely relevant time to be a part of!
As much as IWD is a day of celebration, I think it would be naïve of me not to mention the competition, worry and lack of self-love we all experience from time to time. Let’s use today as an opportunity to reset: an opportunity to remind ourselves of everything you are, you have and you do. We spend so much of our time aspiring, envisioning and wanting. As much as ambition is a necessary and wonderful trait, so is feeling and being content. IWD is raising awareness for equality. Alongside this, let’s also celebrate who we are right now and how far we have come. A wise lady recently told me, ‘you can’t be 100% all the time at everything’ and she was right. Of course, she’s right, it’s quite literally impossible to do and be everything with a vision of perfection in mind too. In fact, you could say it’s unhealthy.
So why do we do it? Why do we subconsciously think the world expects the world of us? I don’t have an answer to this, but we do need to reflect, celebrate and appreciate everything we are. Let’s just take a moment to be; take a few minutes to remind yourself of who you are and what makes you happy and fulfilled. Once we are more mindful of our wellbeing, everything else will fall into place – just be and love you!
We are a community of strong women!
Tone & Sculpt was originally formed to support women with their health and wellbeing goals. Creating an app with workouts and meals that suit the modern woman who works, studies, has a family, social life and so much more has been our goal and we are so excited for all that is to come. What we are so thankful and grateful for is the community that has been created through the act of exercise – the app is amazing, but our community is a warm, supportive, fun and versatile group of women who are always there for one another. We want you to continue to talk to one another, get to know one another and grow our community into the wonderful and kind place it is to be – always remember this is a community of like minded women; there is no competition, no hostility, just support, care and a place where women can feel safe and accepted.
This IWD take some time out for yourself and to celebrate fellow women – whether that be through a workout, a lovely meal with friends and family or celebrating with a community of like minded women, remember you are awesome: the young girl, the wonderful woman, the adoring mum, sister, grandma, the working woman, the family woman – you’re all fabulous and we love each and every one of you!
